The practice of team learning begins with "dialogue". In-depth discussions are a process in which team members temporarily forget their assumptions and prejudices and enter into real "thinking together." The Greek word dia-logos refers to the free flow and communication of ideas among a group of people, which enables the collective to achieve insights and understandings that individuals cannot achieve. Interestingly, many "primitive" cultures retained the practice of deep conversation, such as American Indian cultures, while modern society has almost completely lost it. Today, the principles and practices of deep conversation are being rediscovered and applied in today's context. [In-depth discussion is different from ordinary "discussion". The root of the word discussion is "percussion" and "concussion". It is actually a back-and-forth collision of existing ideas, just like a game. In the end, the winner gets all the honors. ]

The practice of in-depth conversations also requires learning how to identify communication patterns in the team that hinder learning. Habitual patterns of self-defense are often ingrained barriers to team interactions. If not noticed, this habit pattern can hinder learning.
