Billionaire and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk says he’s confident that the company’s Starship rocket will land humans on Mars.
Responding to a post on X, Musk said that building sustainable colonies on Mars would require more than 100,000 people and 1 million tons of cargo.
He added that ‘securing the future of consciousness’ matters more than just sending a few people there, emphasizing that Mars should be able to thrive even if supplies from Earth stop.
The statement follows SpaceX’s updated mission timeline showing plans for Moon and Mars missions in 2028 and 2030. The company also revealed that Starship’s payload capacity would cost about $100 million per metric ton.
Musk recently shared updates on the Starship V3 and V4 rockets, promising larger sizes and higher payload capacities, with V3 launch tests planned by the end of this year.
